Online Hearing Survey 2016
Many people are not aware that their hearing has deteriorated or are reluctant to seek help.
Perhaps they don’t want to acknowledge the problem, are embarrassed by what they see as a weakness, or believe that they can ‘get by’ without using a hearing aid.
Research has demonstrated that untreated hearing loss can cause loss of speech recognition and can create considerable social, psychological, cognitive and health effects.
In fact, those who have difficulty hearing can experience such distorted and incomplete communication that it negatively impacts their professional and personal lives. This, at times, can lead to isolation and withdrawal1. On the other hand, studies have shown that people who have their hearing loss treated report stronger personal relationships, better self-esteem and improved mental health (Source: Access Economics, 2006 ‘Listen Hear! The Economic Impact and Cost of Hearing Loss in Australia’ pp. 47-81)
We are now asking the community to help us better understand the reasons for people not accepting their hearing loss or seeking advice early. we have enclosed a short survey designed by the team at Ear & Hearing Australia and ask that you kindly participate.
